Aids-to-Independence

There is now a huge range of products and services, gadgets and gizmos, aimed at helping people to independently manage the tasks of daily living.

From stair lifts and walk-in baths, to safety kettles and easy-grip kitchen utensils, there are dozens of ways to counter the effects of ageing and lost mobility, without being forced to rely upon other people throughout the day.

But where to start? The Disability Foundation of Ireland offers resources.

Below is a brief idea of some of the many aids that are available to help people live independently, both in their homes and while they're out and about:

Gail is an excellent ambassador for the firm - pleasant, polite and professional at all times. Gemma, to me, is the epitome of what a carer should be. "This was my first job in care and I was nervous about the responsibility it involved before I started, but Right at Home gave me such good training and my Registered Manager is always at the end of the phone if I need help or advice, or just a bit of reassurance. I've recently also finished my NVQ and had specialist training in dementia, which has really helped me to understand my clients' needs."
